Transformers: War For Cybertron – The MMO That Should Have Been (Video)

Transformers: War For Cybertron is a game that has seems to have all the key pieces; deep lore, two opposing sides struggling in a world destroying war, and of course drool worthy animations and sound effects. It breaks the fantasy mold quite well despite having no light sabers or phasers, fitting nicely into it’s own sci-fi action niche.

That said, it’s great news that High Moon Studios is releasing War for Cybertron this year. The problem is, this version of the game isn’t an MMO (see Joystiq’s preview) but more of a single player game instead:

Game Play Reveal:

It’s my opinion that if ever there was an intellectual property out there in need of an MMO, it’s the world of the Transformers. It begs to question if there just aren’t enough investors out there willing to take the plunge into the volatile MMO market.  This type of game seems like it would have been poised to be a great persistent online world, yet it seems like this is a stand alone game that doesn’t seem to promise much MMO-like persistence.  Hopefully, it is still a solid game despite it’s single player/co-op design.

This game has Activision shown as it’s publisher, so I wonder if they just might be thinking about making an MMO with Hasbro’s intellectual property…

Speculation aside, am I the only one that thinks a Transformers MMO would be damn cool?
