It’s Dragon Age Day!
Well, today’s the day that just about every gamer who is down with RPGs has been waiting for… the spiritual successor and possibly evolution of Baldur’s Gate is released upon the masses today. Dragon Age: Origins is here. How will you be celebrating?
The web will soon be filled with blogs about the game’s greatness, it’s incredible lore, it’s nostalgic throwback to CRPGs of old, and hot elf-on-girl action (that’s right, Bioware got dirty again). Pete will likely not come up for air until he’s beaten it. And I’ve also got the game downloading at home while I work. Provided my crappy connection stays fit, I should be delving into the world with my dwarven warrior later this evening.
I remember my first days of true PC gaming spent huddled over the keyboard and plugging hour after hour into Black Isle Studios’ original Baldur’s Gate. I know, I’m the resident tyke here at ITG! but what better games to cut my teeth on than some of the best CRPGs ever made? And today sees a hopeful return to form for the genre that the early 2000s seemed to have forgotten, and if all goes well, we’re bound to see more quality epic RPGs released in the future.
So let’s use this post as a place to geek-gasm about Bioware’s latest opus. What are you playing as first? What system are you playing on? What do you think of the naked elf women? And for those of us stuck at work, if you’re home playing it, stop by and make us more jealous by reveling in the game’s glory via text, won’t you?

I heard it’s utterly awesome. I was gonna wait for the PS3 version but I’m not so sure now…

I was going to wait too. I wasn’t sure, since I really don’t play single player games much. I’m all about multiplayer, but these reviews pretty much say this is going to be the game of the year:

So I gave in, purchased via steam, and used logmein.com to log into my home machine and start the steam download. I am but a gaming sheep!

Logmein.com eh, I might have to look into that.

Yep, check out Resources > The Gamer’s Toolbox in the nav above, or click this link:

That page talks about it a bit, along with some other useful tools.

So far it’s feeling a bit like an MMO launch, eh? Jammed authorization servers and fun like that? Maybe just for digital purchasers, though.
I’m waiting on Steam to unlock the files…taking forever.

Have to agree with Genda. Too much on my holiday plate right now. Unless I get to try it in a demo, I think I’ll wait for a price drop or till I get all these other games off the table first.

Isn’t Dungeon Siege considered the “spiritual successor” to Baldur’s Gate?

My friend described the game as “Just like Knights of The Old Republic,” yesterday. What does everyone think of that? Pretty accurate?
I'll buy the game for sure if he's right.

Same as Genda: so little time to devote to all the games I would like to, and so many distractions to deal with. Maybe when I find it in a discount bin, if Santa isn’t nice enough to deliver it to me…
Too bad. Keep posting your thoughts about it Bildo!

I’m actually going to have to get to this one later on. I’ve got Borderlands, Torchlight, and WoW vying for my time now. And I really don’t have the money or time to consider another game right now. I’ll probably get it later on down the line (hint: Ok to get this for me Santa) but for now I’m going to have to live vicariously through all of you.
Keep me posted, man.
